AC1. Illustration of MS Word Conversion

A:

If you never set a conversion pack before, please set it first (see the picture below). If the topic of the document to convert is a general topic, please select a general pack, i.e. Default Pack; if it is science/technology related, please select the pack Science_Tech; if it is IT related, you SHOULD select the IT pack. New terms in technologies are quite different between Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, and the differences in the field of IT are tremendous. Our packs (especially the IT pack) are specially optimized on their respective topics, so selecting a proper pack is the key step to first class conversion.

Based on our tests and surveys, if an ordinary customer selects a proper pack provided by STGuru, the conversion can be put into commercial use just after a fast manual scan. If you are an advanced user and need to customize your conversion pack, please read STGuru User's Guide - A.2 Word Adjustment Engine Customization Walkthroughs.

As the topic in the following example is IT, the IT pack is used.

We will convert the file 'firefox.doc'. Please double-click this file to open it.

The content of the file is as below. It is formatted and has a picture.

We save this document with a new file name in the XML format, and close the document.

Now open this XML document with Windows Notepad. Note that this step is very important. You should not open it with STGuru.

Copy the content in Notepad into the clipboard.

Perform Clipboard Conversion -> Simplified Chinese (Unicode) to Traditional Chinese (Unicode).

Converting in progress:

Ready is displayed at the bottom left corner of the window when conversion is complete.

Replace the original content in the Notepad with the new content in the clipboard.

Now we find the content in the Notepad has been changed to Traditional Chinese, as we expected.

Double-click to open the file 'firefox.xml'. The file is opened by MS Word. Now we can see that the content of this file has been changed to Traditional Chinese. The terms are standard Taiwan Traditional Chinese terms while the formats and the picture are still properly kept.

This file is still in the format of XML. We save it as a Word doc file, and this is the final Traditional Chinese document we need. For safety considerations, we save it to a new filename, rather than to overwrite the original Simplified Chinese file.

Besides, still for safety reasons, you are suggested to browse the whole document over again to see whether there is any thing to improve.

AC2. The Conversion of Bullets and Numbering in MS Word

A:

Sometimes bullets and numbering, especially bullets, may not be properly converted with the standard procedure for converting MS Word documents. This is because bullets are represented with a complicated multi-point system by MS Word, and the representation of the same bullet in a Simplified Chinese Word document is different from that in a Traditional Chinese Word document.

If you find your bullet hasn't been successfully converted, you are suggested to convert them manually. It is just simple to do that. Please go through the following steps:

1) Select the problem entries;
2) Apply menu command: Formats -> Bullets and Numbering;

3) The bullet type shown in the dialog box is correct at this time. You can just click 'OK' to accept it. (Sometimes the type shown here is not correct, then you need to correct it before clicking 'OK');

4) You can see the correct bullets now. Go through the same steps to fix all other similar problems.
